Wedding dress hemline cleaning

Pre-inspection of a wedding dress prior to cleaning is required to observe the condition of the gown. The wedding gown’s hemline is the area of the dress where concentrated stains are most often seen. Damage to the fabric, tears and wood floor splinters are common in the hemline. The area is pre-cleaned using a gentle tapping motion with a soft bristled brush. Care must be used to prevent additional damage to the fabric. The pre-spotting is a time consuming process. The dress is then hung to dry. Next the entire gown is wet cleaned and again hung to dry. Post inspection of the hemline may require additional attention to stains using the same gentle tapping motion. Careful evaluation and professional judgment by the cleaner will determine how much stain removal effort can safely be directed to the hemline.
